My son is a lucky devil
I think I might have mentioned in my blog that my oldest son got back together with his high school sweetheart. They broke up after graduation, when she went off to college. They were very different at that point. She was (and is) very scholastically inclined. My son? Not so much. He was all about having a good time. And that's all I'm going to say about THAT period in his life. Suffice it to say, it was absolutely the best thing that they broke up even though it broke my heart into a million pieces. I *love* that girl and I wanted her in my life forever. My son held a torch for her the entire time they were apart, even though he dated other girls. He thought he'd never have another chance with her. His girlfriends all knew about, hmmmm... what shall I call her in this blog.... OK, it's "Sweetheart". All of my son's girlfriends were in fear whenever Sweetheart would come home from school; not because she's mean (quite the contrary)- but they all knew how special she was to my son. My son grew out of that ummmm, 'icky' stage and returned to be the beautiful soul that I knew him to be. Apparently, Sweetheart recognized this as well when she was here for Spring break this year. I had a feeeeeeeeeeeeling that something good was going to happen after she and I had coffee during that visit. Whenever she talked about my son, she got *that* look in her eyes. She also kept saying how much he'd changed and how 'deep' he was now. Yup, the bearded eye-roller couldn't get me to stop talking about it after we left our coffee date. I was so excited about what I just *knew* was going to happen. My son called me one night right about the end of Sweetheart's Spring break and said that he was going to tell her how he felt. He didn't want her to leave without knowing his feelings. He was so afraid that he'd get it out wrong, he wrote it in a letter. He said that he wanted NO QUESTION in her mind about how he felt about her (insert RG girly squeal....). Let's just say that talk went VERY well.... So, five years later and after a whole lot of growing and maturing taking place in my son, they got back together. And boy, did they! My son has flown across the country three (or is it four?) times to see her, since she was here in March. He's a big puddle of goo whenever he talks about her. And, quite frankly, so am I. (tee hee). School is out for summer, so my son flew out so they could drive back here together in her car. What he didn't know was that she had a surprise trip to New York planned for him. She told me about it beforehand, but swore me to secrecy. I was so excited for him, but I told her forget about him- TAKE ME!!! They just got home on Saturday after a long drive across the country, and my son uploaded pictures of their trip to his Flickr account. All I can say is, WOW WOW WOW. Not only do they look like they had a good time- they look very much in love. That does a mom's heart good- especially when it's the girl of her (oop's I mean his) dreams. RisibleGirl is in her happy place once again. RisibleGirl was blabbing on about another adventure on 05/22 at 05:17 AM
