Lady and the scamp
I posted last week about the new addition to our floor: our security guard, Lurch. OK, that's not really his name but he is rather "Lurchish". He often takes a stroll around the perimeter of our floor which is sometimes unnerving. He's as stiff as a board, has squeaky shoes and walks with his hands held behind his back. I happen to sit right by the aisle, so I get to hear and see him whenever he takes his little jaunt.

As mentioned in the previous post, he had loosened up; but in the grand scheme of things he still wasn't/isn't much of a joker. In fact, it takes him a while to process the fact that I'm joking with him. I generally say something witty on my way to the ladies room. If I didn't say something then we'd both be looking at the ceiling and whistling as I walk by. This kind of breaks the ice. The following is a re-enactment:

RisibleGirl: Has this day been pretty exciting? (Knowing full well that it hasn't because all he does is stand by the elevators all day)
Lurch: No Ma'am

RisibleGirl heads to the ladies room wondering why she even TRIES to joke with this guy.

Ahh! She's joking with me!

RisibleGirl heads back from ladies room.
Lurch: I did see a spider

So, that's pretty much how the day goes between me and Lurch.

There is a security guard who relieves Lurch for lunch, etc. and has a lot more personality. He's downright fun. My manager told him the other day that she wished that he was the full time security guard because he has a better sense of humor.

His reply? "[Lurch] is actually a lot of fun. In fact, he's quite a scamp."

SCAMP? Wow- I had to immediately look up the word scamp.

This certainly requires more probing.....

hehe. Lurch is funny. I laughed out loud at his spider joke - funny in an unfunny way. You know you have to play some sort of spider joke on him now...

(oh and why'd my secret word have to be 'fiscal'? That's such an unsexy word.)

I think it's all in the training of some of these officers. It's like they're "programmed" somehow.

It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for, you know.

Besides... I would think Lurch is far more of an exciting challenge sor someone like you. wink
