Gee, glad I made her day…
I decided to find a new doctor close to home, and like to interview them before I actually get sick. I want to feel confident that whomever I go to will know how to fix me (physically, anyway). OK, really? I just want a NICE doctor. I'll assume that most doctors know what they're doing with the day-to-day stuff otherwise they wouldn't have that diploma on the wall. Right?

Yeah, call me naive. Really, I'm not too worried, because I have specialists for the important stuff (girlie parts doctor, gastro, etc.)

I found a doctors office about five minutes from home and decided to start there. I went on my lunch hour today and STILL had time to spare- not that it matters. It's 9:08 pm and I just stopped working on my project. This means I've put in a 15 hour day if I'm calculating correctly. Yawn.

The reception staff was nice and the intake nurse was nice, so that was a good start.

The doctor walked in less than five minutes after the nurse left the room. Bonus points for no waiting!

She seemed really nice and friendly (check!) and wasn't wearing a white coat (she explained why later- check!). It was all going very well until she noticed on the computer screen that I have Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. Her eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas, so I'm assuming that I'm her first Alpha-1 patient. Then I received a barrage of questions about my diagnosis and how I'm affected.

As we were winding down the appointment, she said the most absurd thing I've ever heard; "I'm so excited that I have an Alpha-1 patient!".

Me: ohh

I lost a few points with her when I told her that I had an appointment next month with the girly parts doctor after she asked me if I was up to date on that 'stuff'. She looked at me and said, "I can do that you know". She almost seemed a little hurt.

Me: ohh

Regardless, I'm going to stick with her because she was really friendly and I felt very comfortable with her. This will be the first time I've had a doctor from another culture, so it'll be interesting to see if there's a difference.

I'm just glad that I provided a little excitement in her day. Hopefully I scored her some points with her colleagues. heh.

I think you have a real winner there. It's hard to find a doctor like her. I mostly blame it on the system, though, not the doctor. It took me years to find one like you have. Like you, I have
specialists available, but luckily I haven't had to use them for several years. Nice post.

I've gotten really lucky with doctors. I've only had one with no personality and she didn't get another go. I've never actually interviewed one, like you did! You're organized! smile Glad you found someone you liked so quickly.
