Coming up for air
Let me introduce myself. My name is RisibleGirl, and I'm a goal-oriented neat freak. Thus, I've been working from dawn until late into the night in getting things organized and put away (all while keeping the house clean, of course! ha ha) The movers threw me a curve ball on Thursday and decided to go ahead and unload our stuff. I thought it was going to be Friday, so I've been playing catch-up since. By the time they were done, we had four bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs full of stuff, and four rooms, a bathroom and a garage downstairs full of stuff. I was a bit overwhelmed by the sight of it because I had a goal of getting everything DONE by this weekend. I decided to not use the unpacking service because all it consisted of was having them unpack boxes and leave the contents on counters and floors. That would have driven me crazy. I do NOT regret that decision. I had to ask BJ to stop helping me unpack because he had a tendency to just throw things in drawers and cupboards. Prime example was the 1998 yellow pages that the movers packed (who knows where they found them). BJ unpacked them and put them on a shelf in the office with everything else that was in the box; including an old roll of paper towels and miscellaneous tools, cords and empty boxes. Ahem. BJ had lots of stuff in cupboards and the oversized garage that I never touched when I moved into the bachelor pad, so I really had no idea what he was 'storing'. I saw a whole new side of hubby that I didn't know existed- grade A pack rat. Holy cow. I've remedied that though with two trips to the dump. He thought I was being nice because I didn't tell him WHY he was relieved of the unpacking duty. I just told him that since he had to go to work during the day, I wanted him to just relax. I'm sly like that. I also understand that being organized and tidy is MY issue, so it's not something he needs to deal with. As of yesterday, I have everything unpacked, organized and put away except BJ's books. I'm going to leave that to him because he didn't want to give any of them away. There are almost 20 boxes of books, people! There's really not much left to do. We need to put together the beds in the two guest bedrooms, put together a table and chairs, put together a hutch for the bathroom to store towels and things, set up the home theatre equipment, and hang pictures. We are still waiting for our bedroom set and most of the furniture for the family room, but the house is very livable in the meantime. Once we get everything, I'll take pictures and post them here. I'm especially excited about my kitchen. I've decorated it in chrome, black and red. It looks pretty darned fabulous, if I do say so myself. The down side of all of this is that I'm an over-doer and I'm very sore and bruised and can hardly walk. I have a bad habit of loading as much stuff as I can carry (you know, to save a trip or two) and this is not a good idea when going up and down stairs a million times a day. Yeouch. It's coming together beautifully and I can't wait until we're settled. BJ is probably getting tired of me saying things like, "hey! We OWN this house" "Hey, this is OUR yard!" etc. It's all very surreal to me. It's going to be great living here. RisibleGirl was blabbing on about another adventure on 03/08 at 07:18 PM

Wow, you've been so busy! It would take me weeks to unpack. Glad you are back with us, I'd been waiting for an update.    ![]() Anne Glamore wrote:
The hanging of the pix is where my enthusiasm stops. So I call my MIL, who is genius at it. The house looks great!    ![]()    ![]() kim wrote:
Congratulations I moved in to my husband's house in July, and I still have boxes that aren't unpacked. Of course he moved in last February, and he has a couple himself.    ![]() Angela wrote:
