A meme from Catawampus

Kim from Catawampus posted this meme today where she had to pick two people from her blogroll that she’d never seen pictures of, and describe how she thinks they look.

I was one of her picks (wow!  I’m all tingly and stuff...) She wrote:

I see Risible Girl as a petite blond with shortish hair cut stylishly. Fashionably dressed, but in a slightly YOUNG AND EDGEY WAY, Doesn’t wear much makeup - doesn’t need to. All AGLOW in new love, which makes her seem younger than her 40 something years. Laughs alot at everything - so much so that sometimes other people don’t get what’s so funny. But it’s because she has a UNIQUE AND QUIRKY perspective, not because she’s MENTAL or anything.

You’re right on about the personality (except I really am MENTAL- but that’s between you, me and the rest of the cyberworld!). I’d probably add to that, that I have the mental age of about 12. At least that’s what hubby tells me. heh. You’re also right about the fact that there are lots of people who just don’t get what I find to be so funny. Too bad for them. It’s a funny world. wink

Looks? Not petite and not blond. I’m 5’3 on a TALL hair day (not that I have ‘Texas hair’ , mind you...) but I have lots of weight to drop. I’m a size 14-16 depending… Bah- I hate admitting that here on my blog.  Today my hair is almost black with very red chunky foiled highlights. And it’s definitely edgy right now. Last year, it was lighter with almost blond highlights. When I first met hubby, it was almost jet black. I like to play with my hair. Makeup? I LOVE makeup. I don’t wear a lot of foundation, but I do like to play with eye makeup and lipstick.  It’s all about playing with makeup, rather than covering anything up (at least that’s what I tell myself.)

I don’t have a particular dress style. I am a VP at a company with a bunch of legal-types, so can’t get too wild. I’d say at work that my dress style is contemporary, definitely NOT business-like. Suits? Y.U.C.K. At play I"m usually in jeans and a suede jacket of some color or another.

So, here’s a pic wedding020.jpg of me on my wedding day (April 2004). My favorite pic without really showing our faces wink

Now, lessee.....

I think I"ll start with Follow That Star. I’m going to guess that he’s forty-something, about 6’1 and medium build, I"m guessing he has sandy brown hair and brown eyes. I’d be willing to bet that he is a jeans and button down shirt kind of guy as a general rule. Not sure what he’d wear to work, since he’s a hairdresser. I don’t see him having an edgy look. He has a very gentle nature and enjoys listening to people. I don’t imagine him ever trying to be the center of attention, instead, he encourages other people to be in the spotlight. He has a sense of humor, but he’s not an obnoxious clown about it. wink

The next person I’ll pick on is Jenn from According to me who actually lives there. .  I imagine Jenn to be a petite brunette with short hair, who dresses in a casual-conservative way. Jenn’s personality is easy to figure out based on her blog. She’s very caring and introspective. Very family oriented. I’d be willing to be that she likes gardening and dabbles in all kinds of craft type of projects.

That was fun Kim, thanks!  I can’t wait to see how close I was in guessing about these folks.  Now you two (FTS and Jenn) have to go find two people on YOUR blog roll and do the same.

I’m in love

I realize I say that all the time, so it’s probably getting old. First it was hubby, then it was my new coffee maker, then it was my gloves. But this time I am SO seriously in love. I’m in love with my hair and my new hairdresser!

I was in the hairdresser’s chair for half the time as with the annoying hairdresser, and wow.... my hair is SOOOOOOOOOO fabulous.

Here’s how fabulous it is (note how cleverly I hide my face!)

How it all started
Hello, my name is Lori D. and I'm a practical joker. Ahhhhh, that feels better now that the secret it is out.

Of course, it's only a secret to my cyberfriends because my 'real life' friends, family and co-workers have been the brunt of my practical jokes at one time or another.

The earliest practical joke that I can recall was in junior high. Back then, we had records. For you young kids, they are those black things with grooves in them...

We were allowed to bring 45's to school and they would play them during lunch. So I brought one. Only mine was a 45 of parakeets talking. Supposedly it would teach your parakeets how to talk (note to other suckers, they don't work). I carefully soaked and peeled the label off that 45 and put one of my own. "They Byrds". I decorated it with pictures of the group and put my name on it.

When asked why I had my own label, I told them that I did this to all of my 45's... just to make them unique. I got the shoulder-shrug and they accepted it. I guess junior high girls have a reputation for being weird. Heh...heh...

So, I waited for two days and nothing. Finally, on the third day I heard it. "hello baby" (repeated about four times), then suddenly it stopped only to be replaced by the Monkees. Word got out that it was me behind the whole thing and I got a whole lot of attention for it. People thought I was a genius. Oh, and funny. Research tells us that the two go hand-in-hand... but that's for another post.

So that, my friend, is how a practical joker is born.

Postcard from the hairdresser
I am so excited. I finally received the postcard I've been waiting for. My hairdresser is changing salons! I'm in such need of a trim and foil, but I've been waiting for my wacky hairdresser to leave so I can get someone new. I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't just change salons. Well, in my neck of the woods, there aren't very many upscale salons so my choices are limited.

In case you forget why I need to change, here and here and here are reminders..

I've never seen anyone leave that salon (it's upscale) looking bad. So, I'm going to set up an appointment for tomorrow with an unknown person. Hopefully, I won't leave with a mullet or something.

On another note, I apologize about being a bad blogger lately. I've been working on my weblog day theme AND creating a family blog and only get about an hour to myself at nights before hubby comes home. I'm home alone tonight for at least four hours, so should be able to knock out a lot of work.

I will be back with a vengeance!

He thinks he knows me soooooooo well…
BJ scraped his knuckle pretty bad last night on the barbeque (yeah, we barbeque all year long...), so came to me this morning to help him put a bandaid on his knuckle. He didn't want to take a chance of bleeding all over his white shirt.

As you can guess, I said something about fixing his "boo-boo" and I got the expected eye-roll. He then said, "you know, I almost didn't have you help me with this because I knew you'd say something like that".

Well, that shut me right up. Yep, it sure did. That is, until after I placed the bandaid on his finger. Of course, I had to tell him to let me "kiss it better".

Yeah, I guess he does know me pretty well.
