Statements made and opinions expressed on this page are strictly those of me (RisibleGirl) and not of my sis. This accounting of our vacation is from my memory, although I'm pretty sure my sis would agree with every bit of it!
Oh yeah, one more disclaimer. This web site is very busy and nothing like my normal web designs. I guess Vegas hasn't left my mind yet...

Our
vacation starts. The flight was uneventful, but I must make note of the fact
that I did spend time reminding Sis that slot machines are a waste of time.
We landed in Las Vegas and promptly got lost in the airport. Of course, that should be no surprise to those of you who know me well. Eventually we found our way out and hopped on a shuttle to our hotel. Nicholas was our shuttle driver. He gave us a lot of tips about Vegas (including the fact that slots are a waste of time), but soon lost his credibility when he said that he was very close chums with Charo.
Nick dropped us off at our hotel, the Luxor.
Click on the thumbnails below to see the full sized images. It's a pretty fab
place.
We were starving, so we decided to go get something to eat. I remembered that there was a food court in the New York-New York, so we headed out that way. Or so we thought. We couldn't find the right way out of the casino, so left via the parking lot. Mom, I apologize in advance for the mental image this will give you. We ended up in a construction area and it looked rather seedy. The good news is that we eventually made it to the strip, and into the NY-NY. We people-watched while we ate dinner. We saw some pretty interesting outfits (I'm being nice) and some very odd couples. Of course, we were in Vegas.
We thought that we probably ought to gamble at least a little, so I mentioned that there might be a spot we could play the slots and listen to a band. We followed the music (Ohio Players Fire), and found some quarter slots. Sis put in a dollar (I'll admit it, I thought that was pretty cute), and played a quarter at a time, while big spender me put in a twenty and played four quarters at a time. Sis put in her second dollar, plays two quarters and told me that her change light is on. I told her to turn it off (amateurs!) She tried, but it wouldn't go off. I told her that it's probably broken and she'd better move.
She moved to the other side of me and resumed playing another dollar. A very important looking casino worker came up to the machine that Sis "broke" and put something in the quarter slot. I pretended not to notice him until he asked me if I was playing that machine. I wasn't going to fess up, nor was I going to rat on my sister, so I said no and offered no further explanation.
He moved over to Sis and asked her the same question. I was thinking, "Sis, just keep your cake hole shut" just as she meekly answered yes. He asked her again, "So you played this machine last?". She replied yes again and asked if she broke it. He told her that no, she didn't break it- she just won $1,250.00. Sis and I both "heard" him saying that she had to "pay" the money. Yeah, we're stupid.
Sis collected her winnings and we headed back to the hotel. Fortunately, we didn't go back the way we came. We just hung around the Luxor for the rest of the night then went to our room.
Oh yeah- we can never go back to the NY-NY. Sis didn't tip him.
Thursday, October 10th (Happy Birthday Sis!)
First thing on the docket- take the cash to the bank! Of course, we had the breakfast of champions first- a Krispy Kreme donut and coffee.
We looked up our bank in the phonebook. Sis saw one that was on Tropicana. She assumed it was somewhere around the Tropicana, so we headed out that way. We soon realized, thanks to the guy washing the windows, that the our bank wasn't in or around the Tropicana and that we were lost again. It was on Tropicana Blvd. The window washer suggested that we take the bus, so that's what we did.
Note: Traveling by bus doesn't seem to be any more exciting in Vegas than it is in where we live.
With the money deposited safely, and our resolve not to gamble at all, we headed off to M&M World for a little shopping. We went to several stores, but only spent money in M&M World. Hmmmmm, what does that say about us?
Since I didn't want to sacrifice fashion for comfort, I wore the wrong shoes for this kind of adventure. After a few hours of walking, my feet were killing me, and I wanted either a wheelchair or amputation. Either one of the two would have been fine.
These are not my feet, but this is how they felt.
So, we had to go search out a shoe store. Do you know how hard it is to find a shoe store around there? We found one and I bought some stupid sensible shoes, then limped back to the hotel to soak my feet.
We were able to change rooms from the tower to the pyramid. The elevator (ok, they call it an inclinator) ride up is pretty cool. We discovered that the security guards at the inclinator take their jobs VERY seriously. Word to the wise, don't EVER try to go up without your room key.
I put on my running shoes and we were off to Fremont street. That's a fun place! The colorful pictures are of the light show. Almost as entertaining as the lightshow were the interesting dance moves we saw.
We walked up and down Freemont street about four times, and heard an Elvis impersonator coming from the food court, so thought we'd go check him out. He kind of sounded like Elvis, but I don't recall Elvis wearing socks, Birkenstocks and cut-off shorts. Of course, he might have done it during a drug induced stupor. That's the only excuse I can think of for dressing like that.
We tried to have some dinner, but almost fell asleep in our food. We headed back to our room and, being the wild girls that we are, were asleep by ten. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Friday, October 11th
It
was our last day in Vegas and we had a lot to do. We thought that the previous
breakfast of champions wasn't going to do it, so thought we'd tackle the
breakfast buffet. We had some big plans to clean them out. Both of us couldn't
even finish plate number one. So much for that.
First, we visited the
Shark Reef Exhibit at the Mandalay Bay.

I
thought this was a turtle, until Sis reminded me that turtles don't have three
heads. No, I wasn't drinking.
We decided to pet the fish. I thought it was pretty gross
Next, we went to
the Stratosphere to ride the Big Shot. Here's a review
of the Big Shot. I'd agree with the 9 out of 10 on the terror scale. It's
at the top of this needle.
Don't you think the look on Sis's face is
precious? Looks like she agrees with the 9 rating on the terror scale too...

Next, we went to Treasure
Island to get something to drink. We heard people having some fun in the bar,
so thought we'd go there. Yes indeed, they were having fun. The guy on the right
kept telling us that if we danced on the table, we'd get free drinks. Here's
how it turned out..... we paid for our drinks.

We also visited the Mirage to see the white tigers. They looked pretty bored (and so were we), so we moved on.
We visited the Excalibur
and took a picture or two just for our brother, who happens to like castles.
On our way back to the hotel, we saw this:
Lucky Larry's Lobstermania! We knew with a name like that, we'd
just HAVE to win.
Guess what? Larry isn't so lucky.....
Can you believe we fit all of that in before six p.m.?
Is that it?
The rest is pretty uneventful until we got back home. You may have noticed a bit of a theme in this vacation. In case you didn't, the theme is "we're lost". You guessed it. We forgot where we parked and had to scour most of the parking lot to find the car.
Although you're more likely to find me hiking or other peaceful endeavors, I had a great time and can't think of anyone I'd rather spend my vacation with than my sis.
